Beach Restoration Project – Update 2 (1-12-2022)

Capers,

We wanted to provide an update on the Beach Projects after a few weather delays last week and challenging tides to start this week.

Work at Site 2 began over the holidays and you may have seen the installation of some of the Root Wads in water. There is more work to be done both adding Root Wads and & Oyster Reefs, but this will be halted to complete work at Site 1 first.

Site 1 work has commenced again today and all activity will be focused on completing Site 1 Main Beach during our Time of Year Restrictions for construction.

The crews will be off loading equipment back on Main Beach, demo some of the old walls damaged in the late October storms, build out the Cobble Bar/ Beach and Groin feature that is now finally permitted through all agencies. This feature has been the missing piece for helping protect homeowners properties, while providing access and stability to the shifting sands within the Main Beach Project Area.

Work is expected to take 2-3 weeks, depending on mother nature of course. Once Main Beach is completed, the focus will become Site 2, completing the entire project, including the Batten Board Groin.
