Beach Restoration Project(s) Update

Capers,

We hope you had a safe and healthy holiday week with family & friends.

We wanted to take a moment a give a brief update on our Beach Restoration efforts as we shift focus on sites for the next couple of weeks.

At Main Beach, or Site 1, we will be cleaning up as we have completed dredge activities of the Little Magothy Channel and first phase replenishment activities along Main Beach shoreline. You will see some clean up, grading and removal of the turbidity curtain over the next couple days.

At Lake Claire Beach, Site 2, will begin staging operations and begin installation of oyster reef balls/root wads tomorrow hopefully.

Work at Site 2 will also include the installation of the vinyl sheet batten board bulkhead along the east side the boating pier over the next two weeks or so.

Please keep in mind, both sites are considered active construction sites, remain out of any areas marked, fenced in and off any equipment.

If you are out in the water, please remain at least 300ft from any moored barges or working barges for safety and navigational purposes. Especially kayaks, canoes and paddle boarders who may be trying to get an up close look, we have had some close calls and need to heed safety first.

After the New Year, we will post an update to the next phase of Main Beach restoration activities scheduled to be completed in January. Information on the project can be found here: https://cscia.org/cape-st-claire/beach-restoration-project/

Any questions, you can reach us at [email protected]

Thanks for your patience while we work to improve the local habitat & resiliency of our watershed in Magothy & Chesapeake Bay.

The Caper – July/August 2021 Edition

Things are finally starting to come back to “normal”. The clubhouse can now be rented at full capacity and the Strawberry Festival will come roaring into the Cape on August 28th 2021. Ahh, normal, my how we’ve missed you. We hope you’re having a great summer so far.

Don’t forget that our next Quarterly Membership Meeting will be held on Tuesday July 27th at 7:30pm. It will be virtual again, details on how to sign up to attend are right here. This summer, Goshen Farm has been doing their weekly summer concert series. The next event is scheduled for July 23rd and will feature Julie Kurzava & Diane Kinsley/24 Karat and will start at 6:30pm at Goshen Farm. See this month’s Caper for more dates on this great series. The Garden Club takes the summer off but I’m sure they will be ready to go come September. More details on when and their upcoming fall events are in this month’s Caper.

In Cape Conservation Corps news, Weed Warriors continue their work every Wednesday night from 5-7pm at the Serene Ravine. Mark your calendars for their native plant sale to be held on September 25th at the clubhouse field. More details in the Caper!

In Strawberry Festival news, the signup forms for the contests are in this Caper so don’t miss out! We can’t wait to see everyone on August 28th. More details can be found in the Caper or on their website.

See you around the Cape!

The May 2018 Caper has arrived!

Soon, this gloomy April will be a thing of the past. There’s no better indicator that things are changing by the release of the Strawberry Festival Edition of the Caper. Beau’s message talks about the Pier Projects still ongoing which will hopefully be done soon. There’s also information in his message about the two County led projects which are starting up in May.

Don’t forget, coming up, May 12th from 10am to 2pm at the Clubhouse fields is the Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company Touch-A-Truck fundraiser. It’s an amazing event for the kiddos. Come out on May 19th from 8am – 2pm at the Clubhouse fields for the Cape St. Claire Garden Club’s Annual Plant sale. More information on both of these great events can be found in this month’s Caper. Don’t miss great write-ups from Goshen Farm and CCC in this month’s Caper. There’s great information there as always.

Then, if you haven’t already, set your calendars for THE event of the year. The Strawberry Festival is set to kick off at 10am on June 2nd with the parade from the firehouse. Then, around 11am, things blast off quickly. All of the forms you need are in this Caper. If you’re looking for even more information about what’s in store this year, check out the Strawberry Festival’s website.

See you around the Cape!

In addition, we have a CSCIA Road update that you won’t want to miss and we’ll setup you up for what 2017 has in store. If you need a copy of the ballot to take with you, you can pick up a copy by simply clicking this link. Enjoy your cold Monday.
