The Holiday Season is upon us. Nothing beats driving into the Cape from Cape St. Claire Road and checking out that lit Christmas tree and guardhouse. NOTHING. Thanks to everyone who came out to light that tree up even through the nasty weather. In Beau’s Presidential message, he thanks all the volunteers who made the tree lighting extra special. Big thanks to Santa and Mrs. Clause for their generous hospitality.

Also in his message, he talks about the upcoming Annual Meeting, being held on Tuesday January 9th, 2024 at the club house. Don’t forget to grab your ballot in this month’s Caper. It’s also budget time so don’t forget to review this fiscal year’s budget. Beau goes into all of the details on what will need to change. Beau also discusses the proposed amendments to the CSCIA Bylaws, that will also need to be voted on. To view these in more detail, check out our website. Also, this will be the last Presidential term for Beau Breeden (at least for now… 😉). As always, Cape St. Claire is indebted to him for all of his efforts throughout the years. Frank Tewey, the Town Manager, in his message, talks about annual maintenance fee renewal time. The yellow postcards will be mailed out in late December.

In Community news, the Cape Garden Club will host a workshop on Tuesday January 2nd at 7pm at the clubhouse. They recently hosted two very successful events, their Terrarium Workshop back in November and recently their Evergreen Wreath Workshop.

On 12/9 Cape Conservation Corps will be doing Ivy removal at Deep Creek Marina. Their message this month gives their full year in review for 2023. Don’t miss this great article about all the ways they have helped to improve the community this year.

Now that another successful Halloween is in the books, the Christmas music has already begun. I can hear Mariah Carey singing in the background. Too early? That’s up to you to decide.

In Beau’s Presidential message in this month’s Caper he thanks many of the community members (Mary Lamb and Joe Peterson from Til Next Time Salon) for a very successful Movie Night held at the main beach. He also talks about Cape Conservation Corps successful fall plant sale along with the first En Plein Air event held at Little Magothy. So many great events in this great community. It’s also time to talk really serious CSCIA news. It’s BUDGET season! In this month’s Caper he lays out the budget for FY2025. Don’t miss it.

In Frank Tewey’s message, he also discusses the budget for FY25 and all of the details therein. It’s important for all of us to understand how CSCIA manages the communities money. In addition, the marinas will be winterized on November 30th with all the plumbing shut off and all lines drained at Deep Creek and Lake Claire. Mark your calendars slip holders!

Cape Conservation Corps has a great write-up in this month’s Caper about the value of trees. In addition, they have information on their Ivy removal coming up on December 9th… location is TBD.

The 5th annual holiday tree lighting is scheduled for Sunday November 26th at 6:00pm at the Community’s Entrance Guard Shack. It’s a must see yearly event! Don’t miss it!

Santa is coming to the Cape St. Claire Clubhouse on Saturday December 9th, 2023. There are two time slots – 8:30 and 10:30am. These seats go quickly so I would view this Caper right now and submit it to Mary Lamb. Details and the submission form for this amazing event are in this month’s Caper!

Summer is slowly transitioning to fall. How do we know? Kids are heading back to school. So many parents celebrated getting through another summer and the Return of the Classes. The September Caper also represents another transition marker to fall. In Beau’s President’s Perspective, he thanks the beach attendants (a yearly tradition!), Frank Tewey, the Town Manager, and Dottie and Matt the groundskeepers, for all of their hard work during the summer months. The rest of his message is spent with the budget for FY2025. Be sure to read his message in whole to get an understanding of what needs to be done this year and the changes a foot for FY2025.

Frank Tewey, in his message, discusses the amazing summer-time and then gives us great advice on how to properly handle yard waste for curbside collection by the County. Also, he gives a friendly reminder that the next membership meeting will be help on Tuesday, October 24th at 7:30pm at the clubhouse.

In community news, Goshen Farm announced that they secured a $60,000 state grant through the Maryland Capital Grants program. This grant is aimed at stabilizing the foundation of the historic Goshen Farm House. Don’t forget that their Fall Open House will be held on Saturday September 23rd 2023 from 10am – 4pm at Goshen Farm. Enjoy family activities, entertainment, history, and food. Explore the farm to learn about the history of Goshen Farm, the last Colonial-era farm on the Broadneck Peninsula.

Cape St. Claire Garden Club will have their annual Member’s Sharing Slideshow where members share photos about what’s new in their gardens. This will be on September 5th at 7pm at the clubhouse. In case you’d like to expand your gardening palate beyond our stalwart daffodils and tulips, you’re invited to join us on Tuesday, October 3rd for Speaker Charles Cresson of Hedgeleigh Gardens (co-hosted with the Annapolis Horticultural Society) on Minor Bulbs , like scilla, squill, grape hyacinth, and aconite. If you’re just as confused on what these are as I am, join them on October 3rd at the clubhouse.

Cape Conservation Corps has their upcoming talk from Alison Milligan on plant combinations on September 7th at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm) at the clubhouse. On September 10th, join them from 4-8pm at the Main Beach for their free musical event with Cape Vibes. Also, on September 23rd, they will have their Fall Native Plant Festival and Sale. The dog days of summer have certainly arrived in full force. But it’s July… in Maryland… what did you expect? For many, they wouldn’t have it any other way. The new double issue Caper has hit the “store” shelves and it’s a good one. Beau, in his Presidential message, discusses the many activities that have taken place in the past few months. The extraordinarily successful Strawberry Parade & Festival, they planted 1,500 native grasses at Main Beach and Lake Claire, and had, maybe, the best July 4th parade and festival yet.

Beau then takes the time to really shine the light on notable people who have really made a difference around Cape St. Claire. Stacey Wildberger, President of Cape Conservation Corps, has really shown u p and made a huge difference to many locations around the Cape. In addition, Brad Knopf, another volunteer with CCC, has really been instrumental in keeping the Oyster Nursery going.

As always, Beau, thanks Mary & Jimmy Lamb for their tireless efforts to bring fun and excitement to the Cape. So many more people to thank so please make sure you read this message in this month’s Caper.

The Cape Nurse gives a great overview of our Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Department (CSCVFD). She sits down with Carson Doyle, professional paramedic and volunteer there, and they go over what it means to support the community. It’s a must read.

In Community News, Goshen Farm free Friday summer concerts series continues this Friday with the Biondi Family Band / Dirk and the Truth. Check their website for more details. Also, a big congratulations to Riley Hoover for his Eagle Scout project work at Goshen Farm. Check out what he was able to accomplish in this month’s Caper.

The Garden Club takes the summer off from meetings but their Yard of the Month judges will be out in full force so make sure you are keeping those yards looking good during the dog days.

Cape Conservation Corps has given out a driving/walking tour of sorts in telling you about the Champion Trees of Cape St. Claire. What is a champion tree? I won’t spoil it here but there’s a great write-up and a map in this month’s Caper. Think of it as a treasure hunt of sorts. You don’t want to miss this.

The 2024 Cape Calendar photo contest is looking for great photos of the community. Check out this month’s Caper for details on how to enter your great photo.

Lastly, this Caper is filled with Strawberry Festival and July 4th celebration pictures galore, and even has a Back to School Word Hunt. In fact, I would argue that if you’ve gotten this far, you’ve spent too much time reading this and NOT reading that. Get to it.

We are approaching Memorial Day weekend and with that comes the promise of even better things to come. The Strawberry Festival. Set for June 3rd, it’s THE event to attend in Cape St. Claire every year. We hope to see you there.

In this month’s Caper, Beau, President of Cape St. Claire Improvement Association, talks about being respectful to the beach attendants. They are there to help make sure that residents and their guests have a fun and safe time at the beaches and parks. If you are a boat slip holder, make sure that your boat is in the water by June 1st.. this is in your contract! The rest of his message can be found in this month’s Caper.

Frank, the Town Manager, gives a shoutout to all the kids graduating from high school, trade school, college and universities, and the like. He gives a friendly reminder on making sure your orange sticker has been affixed to your vehicles and wants you to mark your calendars for the July 4th celebration! More details in this Caper.

In Community Group news, Goshen is still holding their kayak raffle. For $5 per ticket, you can get a chance to win 2 beautiful kayaks with paddles! Be sure to get on their website for more details and a chance to win. Goshen’s first summer concert will be held on June 16th, where Sparks and McCoy and Guava Jelly will be performing. The Garden Club’s Plant Sale was another huge success and they thank the community for their continued support. More details on mosquitos and how to help prevent them can be found in their writeup in this month’s Caper.

Don’t forget that the Cape Community Swap will be held on Sunday June 11th at 10am-2pm down at the Cape Clubhouse field. Cape Clean up will be held on July 14th and July 15th at the corner of Broadview and Cape St. Claire Road. Both are great cleaning out the house type events.

Every Wednesday through October, Cape Conservation Corps will meet at one of the three areas to remove invasive plants and plant natives. Email Stacey at [email protected] to volunteer. June 24th is their Habitat hero tour from 10am to noon. More information can be found in this month’s Caper and online.

It’s the Pre-Strawberry Festival issue and it’s strawberry jam packed. In Beau’s Presidential message, he keeps it short by only running to two pages (😉) but as always, has great things to say. Spring is a hectic time. In addition to normal board meetings, there have been many sessions with the Chesapeake National Recreational Area (CNRA) at the Federal Level, with local properties being considered, such as Whitehall. He gives great detail on the process thus far. Frank, the new Town Manager, has really hit the ground running. He is learning the systems very quickly and beginning to make assessments to help improve as an organization, in both the short and long term. He has conducted interviews for beach attendants, and is looking for some help regarding part-time groundskeeping for the summer maintenance of our beaches and parks.

Frank, the Town Manager, is warning everyone with the arrival to spring to slow down when driving around Cape’s roads. Also, you should’ve received your orange sticker for this year (if you paid your $10 dues) so if you haven’t received them, be sure to contact the office. Also, if you’re taking on any summer construction projects, be sure you read the building codes.

The Cape Nurse has a great write-up on Printer Claus, the Cape’s mysterious person using a 3-dimensional printer to create palm-sized colorful toys (animal creatures, lettering, lights, etc…) and placing them around the neighborhood for folks to discover. It’s been a real treat. She talks about why that act of kindness is so important for us in her great Caper article.

In other community news, Goshen Farm’s summer concert series kicks off this year on June 16th with Sparks and McCoy / Guava Jelly. They start at 6:30pm at Goshen Farm. Don’t forget that the Garden Club has their Annual Plant Sale on May 20th at the Cape Clubhouse field. This is a must see event for those who want to add a little green and color to their gardens. More details can be found in the Caper.

Hero winners and see what they are doing to be a good steward of their land. Details on how to attend this event, see this month’s Caper. Springtime has arrived and with that brings the many amazing community events. On April 1st, (tomorrow), the great Easter Egg Hunt will be happening at the Cape Beach. It’s the best family filled event.

In this month’s Caper, Beau’s President Perspective message catches everyone up to date with all that’s happening. Broadneck Council of Communities is set to host John Sarbanes, our District 3 Representative at the Cape Clubhouse on April 27th. So much discussion around the Bay Bridge study. Beaches and Parks is hiring, more information on this can be found in his message.

In the Town Manager’s message, he warns about slowing down when driving around the community. He also gives a friendly reminder on the $10 dues that are now late. Frank also reminds you to check those building codes on our website before starting any big home improvement project.

In community group news, Goshen Farm is hosting their Open House on Saturday April 15th from 10am – 4pm. It’s a family friendly event with plenty of activities for the kids. More information on this and other Goshen news is in this month’s Caper.

The Garden Club hosted their 48th anniversary dinner last month and it was a packed house! Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Plant Sale occurring on May 20th, from 8am to 2pm at the Cape Clubhouse field.

Cape Conservation Corps will begin their Weekly Weed Warriors every Wednesday through October starting on April 5th. In addition, on April 21st, the WWW will host their Open House & Earth Day craft at Little Magothy Beach Park from 5:30-7pm.
