The Caper – June 2021 Edition

After a bitterly cold (and record breaking) start to the summer, we think Mother Nature is ready to get back on track. Looks as though we’ll be safely leaving those temperatures in the 50’s in the rear view mirror. Let’s sure hope so. In this month’s Caper, Jeff talks about the great job our teachers have done throughout this past year. It’s been a crazy and challenging time for them and for our students. He also talks about being mindful of the Cape and Anne Arundel County rules. Have fun but be lawful and safe. Ryan, our Town Manager, will be celebrating his three year anniversary this month. It’s hard to describe the positive impact he has had on the daily comings and goings within the Cape. In his message, as we get ready for the 4th of July, he talks about firework safety. He also wants to remind you that our quarterly membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 27th at 7:30pm.

In community group news, Goshen Farm is having their raffle for a chance to win 2 Daylite lifetime 8ft kayaks and paddles. The drawing will be in July. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at https://goshenfarm.org The Garden club’s virtual plant sale, that was held in May, was another success. Don’t forget to visit capegardenclub.wordpress.com to see what’s coming up in June and beyond. Cape Conservation Corps has another great article submitted by Stacey Wildberger on their recent Native Plant Swap. Check it out. We are excited to announce the 4th of July Parade and Celebration will resume this year! A float entry form and more details are in the Caper. Don’t forget that the Strawberry Festival is scheduled for August 28th. Signup form are in this month’s Caper so please make sure you review them and submit.

The Caper – May 2021

That disease which must not be named has started to loosen its grip on our dailies. Jeff, in his Presidential message dives into how TDWMNBN has affected the community over the past year. We’re all looking forward to whatever the new normal can be. As we all start to get outside more and <GASP> see other humans, Jeff has a reminder to all of you on brushing up on the rules and regulations of the community, including our boat ramp and beaches. Check our site for more details.

Ryan, our Town Manager, has a great message on things in bloom and ways to improve your landscapes. Maintaining turf grass is one of the easiest ways to prevent soil erosion in your yards. The University of Maryland Extension office recommends tall fescue as the species of choice for our state. More information in this month’s Caper.

In Community group news, Goshen Farm is doing their Annual Goshen Farm kayak raffle. $5 tickets can be purchased on their website: https://goshenfarm.org. Drawing will be in July. More details on this and their current membership drive are in this Caper. The Garden Club is running their “virtual” plant sale. Hurry now over to http://capegardenclub.wordpress.com to order your plants. Contactless curbside pickups for your online orders will be May 13-16. More details inside on this and ways to keep those pesky mosquitos at bay.

Cape Conservation Corps has their weekly Weed Warriors event at Lake Claire Drive. They meet at 5:00 and go to 7:00 every Wednesday. Stacey has a great article on Understory trees for your home landscape so don’t miss it. Also, they announced their 2021 2nd quarter winner as EMILY BROWN. More details inside.

On May 14th and 15th from 9am to 4pm, we will be doing Cape Cleanup. There are some limitations with this year’s event so please be sure to read the article on page 11 to understand what you can and can’t bring.

The Cape St. Claire Strawberry Festival, even though it won’t be in June, will be held on August 28th. We’re so excited to have this event and we hope it will be the best yet. More details on it are in this month’s Caper.

Don’t miss the write-up on the CSC Shoreline Beach Restoration Ribbon Cutting ceremony that was held on April 13th. It was a great event held to celebrate the board’s resiliency over the past 8 years to get it done.

The Caper – April 2021

What an exciting time to live in the Cape. Phase 1 of Site 1 of our beach project is complete. Next up are the plantings which will really make a huge difference to our views. Jeff Roche, in this Presidential message, outlines where we are as far the beach project for Site 1 and Site 2. It’s an exciting time indeed.

Ryan, our town manager, in his message reminds everyone that we are hiring for Beach Attendants for this summer. We lowered the age limit to 15 and we are hoping to get kids interested in making some money this summer.

Sadly, Goshen Farm had to cancel their Java Jazz and Tunes but hope to have another event in April. Stay tuned for information on that. The Garden Club will be hosting their annual Dividing Perennials Workshop outdoors on Saturday April 10th @ 1pm. Their plant sale will also be hosted virtually for the 2nd year in a row. Online orders will open up on May 1st. More details inside this Caper!

The Cape Community Swap will be held on Sunday April 11th at 10am at the clubhouse. More details inside this edition of the Caper. The Caper – March 2021 Edition

FINALLY, after 7 years, the beach project is ready for lift off. Mobilization begins March 1st so expect to see activity down by the beach starting on Monday March 1st 2021. We are so excited… we hope you are too. In his Presidential message, Jeff, thanks all the President’s who had to deal without a Town Manager. We cannot sugar coat the amount of help that Ryan, our current Town Manager, brings to the position every, single, day. In Ryan’s message, he wants to make sure you remember about paying the $10 maintenance fees. Get those yellow cards in! Our next membership meeting will be held on April 27th at 7:30, look out for more details on that soon.

In community news, the Garden club wants you to remember about their annual plan sale to be held in May. More details on this will be released soon. On March 14th 2021, Goshen is having their tea & tunes fundraiser at the Cape St. Claire Clubhouse, safe distanced of course. Check out details in this month’s Caper. Cape Conservation Corps will kick off their Wednesday Weed Warriors with an open house at the Serena Ravine on March 26th at 5:30pm. That’s at 1037 Lake Claire Drive… don’t miss it!

Spring is just around the corner and with it… we hope… comes a sense of normalcy again. Let’s all cross their fingers and hope.

The Caper – February 2021 Edition

As we ushered in the new year, we’ve also ushered in changes to the Cape board. Want to give a congratulations to Jeff Roche for rising to the role of President. We know he will do a great job. His first President message is something you shouldn’t miss. Ryan, our town manager, delivers some great tips on keeping your pipes from freezing. Don’t forget that every home owner should’ve received their yellow cards. Your $10 is due by March 1st so get them in!

Goshen Farm offers a great history record on the farm property. Don’t miss that overview in this issue. Goshen is hoping to have Java & Jazz on March 14th, pending the Executive Orders being lifted. The Garden Club is hoping to have a great year this year as well. In February, they are planning on having a nature walk at a local botanical garden. Cape Conservation Corps has another great post by Stacey Wildberger, don’t miss this and all of our other community groups in this issue of the Caper.
