The Caper – May 2022 Edition

Despite the chilly temperatures in April, it actually was a normal month. That probably sounds crazy to those who wondered why mother’s nature had been so cranky. That coldness to the air continues to linger into May. Yet, despite the weather, things have been interesting around the Cape. Beau, in his Presidential message, he talks about the stranded ship in the Chesapeake. Everyone is just glad that there was no long term environmental damage. He also gives a friendly reminder to check the beach policies and make sure you have your new sticker on your vehicles. They were due May 1st. Lastly, the call for volunteers is great. Between the Strawberry Festival, Weed Warrior Wednesday, volunteering with the CSC Volunteer Fire Company, Goshen Farm, the CSCIA board or the Garden Club, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer around the Cape.

Ryan, in his Town Manager message, gives a pleasant reminder to slow down while driving through the neighborhoods as children are at play. He also provides great tips for managing your yard. Don’t forget that the next quarterly membership meeting is schedule for Tuesday July 26th at 7:30pm at the clubhouse.

In community news, Goshen Farm is hosting their Goshen Farm Family Days on Saturday May 14th and 21st from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased online at https://www.goshenfarm.org or at one of their other events.

In Cape Conservation Corps news, May 7th is their native plant swap pickup from 9-11am. Mark your calendars for September 17th and their native plant fest and sale from 9-12pm… (date could change) Stacey Wildberger has a great article in this month’s Caper about the importance of volunteers… so desperately needed. Don’t miss it.

The Garden Club is hosting their plant sale on Saturday May 14th from 8am – 2pm. For more information on this great event, see this month’s Caper or visit their website.

This May issue also has the Strawberry Festival forms for those still interested in participating. Don’t forget that this AMAZING event takes place on Saturday June 4th, 2022. The Caper – April 2022 Edition

Calendar says spring but winter has had other ideas. Cold morning have been followed by lukewarm days. This will probably be one of those years when we go from Winter to Summer. I hope I’m wrong on that.

Beau, in his Presidential message, has noticed the amount of people strolling about the beaches. Even with the cold weather, many have been curious about the beach project. He mentions a few things to consider when out and about. Be sure to check out the rules here online. Be sure to review before you head out. He also puts out a request for volunteers. We have upcoming events like the Easter Egg Hunt, Strawberry Festival, worksdays on our properties and the 4th of July parade. He is also asking that you consider joining the Board of Governors in the future.

Ryan, the Town Manager, reminds everyone to be cautious while driving about the Cape. Cold weather or not, many people have been out and about so slow down out there. For those selling their homes, he offers tips on what size portable storage containers you’re allowed. Be sure to read the Caper for more tips in his message.

In community news, Goshen Farm is having their open house on Saturday April 23rd from 10am to 4pm at Goshen Farm. This free event is open to everyone who wants to attend. Last time I did one of these, Jeff Roche was the President and it was unseasonably warm. Now? Beach Restoration Project – Update 2 (1-12-2022)

Capers,

We wanted to provide an update on the Beach Projects after a few weather delays last week and challenging tides to start this week.

Work at Site 2 began over the holidays and you may have seen the installation of some of the Root Wads in water. There is more work to be done both adding Root Wads and & Oyster Reefs, but this will be halted to complete work at Site 1 first.

Site 1 work has commenced again today and all activity will be focused on completing Site 1 Main Beach during our Time of Year Restrictions for construction.

The crews will be off loading equipment back on Main Beach, demo some of the old walls damaged in the late October storms, build out the Cobble Bar/ Beach and Groin feature that is now finally permitted through all agencies. This feature has been the missing piece for helping protect homeowners properties, while providing access and stability to the shifting sands within the Main Beach Project Area.

Work is expected to take 2-3 weeks, depending on mother nature of course. Once Main Beach is completed, the focus will become Site 2, completing the entire project, including the Batten Board Groin.
