It’s time for the September Caper!

the_caper_september_2016 The calendar says that summer is winding down but you wouldn’t know it by stepping outside. Pumpkin spice lattes and NFL football are becoming the rage again as Fall tries to take hold. We’ll see how long it takes for Fall to really get here. As we think about Fall and the memories of the Festivals fade, the Board of Governors has to focus on budgets and running the community. In Beau’s message, there are some hard truths that we all have to face. With only 6 Board of Governors, we’ve realized that running a community of 2300 homes cannot be done by volunteers only. We need to implement a Town Mayor, a paid position. We beg of you to read his message in this Caper and learn for yourself the issues we face.

Goshen’s Open House will take place on September 17th, 2016 from Noon to 5pm. They are using the Open House to showcase Goshen’s use as an educational center. The information sessions will be held at 1:15 and 3:15 PM and will not conflict with the house tours which will be conducted at 12:15, 2:15, and 4:00 PM. Please see Goshen’s page in the Caper for more information about this great event.

Check out the Garden Club’s winners of Yard of the Month for August and September. Halloween Happenings is set to take place on October 29th, 2016 from 10am to 3pm. All that’s required to attend is a food donation. Trick or Treating at the shopping center will take place on October 27th, 2016 from 5:30 until the candy is gone! Cape Conservation Corps is having their 2nd annual Harvest Bash on November 4th, 2016 from 7-10pm. Don’t miss these great events! More information about them is in this issue.

See you around the Cape!

The July – August 2016 Caper is now online!

the_caper_July_Aug_2016 Mother nature can really be difficult at times. Sure, she gave us great weather for the Strawberry Festival but for the second year in a row, we couldn’t get our 4th of July festivities up and running without everyone getting completely soaked. Still, we crowned “Tipzy Pug” the winner in the BBQ Championship and handed the 1st place trophy to Roan and Rebecca Dunn for the best side dish and dessert competition. We have great images of both the Strawberry Festival and indoor 4th of July festival in this issue of the Caper.

Don’t forget to come out for the July 26th Quarterly Membership Meeting. We are going to have Biohabitats out and give a presentation on the Beach Erosion Project and the 7 site concept plan. It’s an important meeting which will kick off the largest project in the CSCIA’s 67 year history.

This Caper is a double issue so it’s loaded with great information about all of the great Cape Community Organizations. No spoilers here this time. Go and read your full color copy now!

Stay cool and see you around the Cape.

The June 2016 Caper is now online!

the_caper_june_2016 So much going on in the Cape right now. We know that most have seen the relocation of the guardhouse. The road project is really starting to come together nicely. In this issue, Beau provides many other updates about everything that’s been going on. As most saw at the Strawberry Festival, the new retaining wall and completed path really look fantastic. The new updates to the clubhouse have been well received. Don’t forget about the quarterly meeting on July 26th! This is an important one as we’ll be discussing the Beach Restoration project. We need all of your inputs! So many more details are in Beau’s Presidential message.

Mosquito spraying has begun. Please see this issue for more details on that. The Strawberry Festival once again blew the doors off of the Cape. The weather cooperated and everyone was in a fine mood. We’ve got pictures of the festival in this issue. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for July 4th and come out to see the parade and then head to the beach for more festivities. More details on that are available in this issue.

So much to see! So much to do! Summer has begun in the Cape. This issue officially kicks it off.

See you around the Cape.

Community Mosquito Spraying Program 2016

MD-dept-agricultureWe all know the kind of nuisance a large number of mosquitoes can be to our quality of life. In addition, they can carry many diseases like West Nile encephalitis, eastern equine encephalitis and St. Louis encephalitis.

Due to the large mosquito population in the Cape, we will once again be participating in the Community Mosquito Spraying Program by the Maryland Department of Agriculture for 2016. “The Department’s preferred mosquito control strategy is the reduction of mosquito larvae numbers by source reduction, biological control agents or use of biological insecticides. Adult mosquito control, by ultra-low volume (ULV) application of insecticide, is conducted using aircraft or truck-mounted application equipment in residential areas for nuisance abatement and to protect public health from mosquito-borne disease.” ~source MDA’s website

We just received the day of the week from the MDA which tell us what day spraying will take place. The day this year is Wednesday nights between 7pm and 2:30am. The 2016 program will begin with technician training on May 27 – June 1st. During the training period our community might not be sprayed.

Regular season activity will begin by June 1st and continue into September, and possibly October.

If you would like to opt out of the program, please use the MDA’s submission form located on this page. In addition to the opt-out program, that page is another great resource from the state on mosquito spraying.

The May 2016 Caper is now online!

the_caper_may_2016 April showers have brought May showers. While we can’t seem to kick the clouds and rain, mother nature said she plans on clearing the skies by the time June 4th rolls around. The Strawberry Festival executive team is working overtime to make the 2016 Strawberry Festival the best one yet.

Berry_Bus_Stops_Strawberry_Festival_2016If you haven’t heard, the Berry Bus Stops will help to relieve congestion by picking people up at designated spots throughout the Cape. The new Caper has a map for you to hold onto or you can use the image right here. This Caper edition also contains all of the forms you might need for the Festival. You can also visit the website.

This issue contains a major update on the Beach Restoration project that was announced some time ago. In community news, The Garden Club is having their plant sale on May 14th and Cape Conservation Corps is having their community tours today (May 7th) so head over to their website to get the information.

Lastly, don’t forget about mosquito prevention. Page 7 has some great information on the way we can all help to keep the tiger mosquito at bay this year.
